The mother-institution of the conference is the Széchenyi István University (University of Győr).

The coiner, founder and main organizer of the Conference on Transport Sciences is the Department of Transport at Széchenyi István University (University of Győr).

The university’s predecessor in title has been established in 1968 as the College of Transport and Telecommunications.

The institute assumed the name of Széchenyi István, „the greatest Hungarian” in 1986.

Since the early 1990s the institute has provided education not only in the field of engineering, but also in economics and health and social care sciences. Later, other trainings and schools joined, like international relations, law and administration, social work, medicine and health, musical arts, agriculture, pedagogy and teacher training.  

The college officially became university in 2002.

On 1 August 2020, the controlling rights of the Széchenyi István University were transferred from the state to the Széchenyi István University Foundation.
